Kingston – Special Visit with Glory Jasper and Gloria Waslyn

Members Glory Jasper and Gloria Waslyn will speak about their unique encounters with wildlife.

Glory was born in Manhattan and spent her summers in the Catskills. She graduated Adelphi University on Long Island with a BA in 1968 and a MS in Cell Biology in 1970. She lived in Singapore from 1983 to 2021 During that time she traveled extensively around Asia including many trips to Indonesia: Sulawesi, north east and north west Borneo, Java and Sumatra. She also traveled for work all over Asia Pacific including China, Philippines, India, Malaysia, Taiwan, New Zealand and Australia. Glory will talk about Birute Galdikas who is the least known primate researcher of Louis Leakey’s “trimates”: Diane Fossey (gorillas) Jane Goodall (chimpanzees) and the orangutan specialist Birute Galdikas. She will talk about her visit to her orangutan sanctuary in Borneo. |
Gloria Waslyn is the founder and president of Parrots For Peace, Inc., a 501(c)3 charitable organization whose mission is to support the family of blue and gold macaws known as the Parrots For Peace as they participate in peace and environmental programs. She has created a permanent Peace Sanctuary for her birds to live their long lives, to house parrots whose human families need to rehome, and to deliver workshops on Natural Intelligence. The visitors will interact with the peace parrot family and learn from them about the interdependence of all life on Gaia and the Cosmos. Their motto is: “May there be peace with Mother Earth and with all People, Animals and Nature.” The Parrots For Peace appear regularly at various U.N. NGOs for water, spirituality, indigenous peoples and habitat rights for nature’s preservation, international peace and ending weapons of mass destruction. Gloria Waslyn lives with her interspecies family in a small home with a living room and backyard for them to enjoy in Ruby (Town of Ulster). She is a former board member of Children’s Home of Kingston and serves on the fundraising committee currently. She was a VP of the Professional Womens’ Photographers in NYC and had many gallery exhibits of people with the peace parrots. |
